Dividers you design

Add a divider line to an Instagram caption to separate its parts. It is made of ordinary characters, so it pastes like any other text.

Step 1Put the cursor where the divider should go

Click or tap at the end of the line that should sit above the divider.

Step 2Insert a divider

Tap the ⋮ button at the end of the bar and choose the third icon, Insert divider. A plain line appears, with a blank line above and below it in the Output.

Step 3Tap the divider to open its editor

A panel opens under the divider. It stays open while you work, and never covers the divider you are changing.

Step 4Start from a ready-made design

The lower half of the panel is a list of finished dividers. Tap one and it is applied straight away. The labels above the list (Simple, Spaced, Accent, Frames, Borders and more) narrow it down.

Step 5Or build your own

The top of the panel has five tabs:

  • Line: one character repeated. Choose the character, the length, and whether it is solid, spaced or grouped.
  • Framed: a line on each side of a centre piece.
  • Bookend: a line with a cap at each end.
  • Pattern: a short sequence that repeats.
  • Custom: type or paste anything.

Wrapper adds a matching pair of ends, such as ╔ ╗. The Preview shows the result. Tap Apply to use it.

Step 6Close the editor and copy

Tap the × in the panel's corner, press Esc, or tap outside it. Then tap Copy.

Good to know

  • To remove a divider, tap it so it is highlighted, then press Backspace or Delete.
  • Drag the corner mark at the bottom right of the panel to resize it. On a small phone, making it shorter keeps more of your caption in view.
  • Long dividers can wrap onto a second line on narrow phones. Around 10 to 15 characters is safe for Instagram.
  • All the ready-made dividers are also on one page, ready to copy.

Try it yourself.
